10 Definitions and Functions of Computer Networking Devices and Images

10 Definitions and Functions of Computer Networking Devices and Complete Images – In building a good computer network, various devices are required, both hardware commonly referred to as “hardware” and software commonly referred to as “software”. This device is used to aid the delivery process and allows someone to work online. On this basis, the existence of hardware and software is very important, as a bridge between computers and networks is urgently needed.

Here are 10 computer network devices and their definitions and functions:

1. Server computer

Server computer

A server is a computer that contains an operating system, application programs, and a database. This computer is responsible for providing services to client computers on a network. There is a database on the server computer that can be shared by the client computer. In general, the difference between a server and other computers is in the software. The server is often the host that controls the hardware that is shared on the workstation.

2. Customers

client

Client is a computer that is used to process databases that are taken over by the server computer. This computer acts as a user of network services, the performance of which is limited by the server computer.

3. LAN card

LAN card

The LAN card is a network card in the form of an electronic card that is installed on every computer connected to a network, both on the server and on the client. In this modern era, there are many types of network cards circulating in the markets. Some things you should know about the network card are the card type, the protocol type and the type of support cable.

4th hub

Hub

Hub is a device whose task it is to connect the server computer to several other computers in a network (star topology). The hub acts not only as a connection center, but also as a signal booster. Computers connected to the hub take turns exchanging data. Hubs are used to connect multiple devices on the same computer network. Example: Hub is used to bring together the cables from multiple clients that are connected to the server. Usually the hub has a port hole for RJ-45 connectors up to 4 pieces, 8 pieces, 16 pieces and depending on the type

5. Cables and connectors

Cables and connectors

Cables and connectors are used to connect one computer to another computer on a network. In a computer network, the cable serves as a signal transmission medium. There are different types of cables that can be used, each cable has different capabilities and specifications. The cables must be installed in the appropriate ports to connect to the Ethernet card. For example: cables and their connectors are coaxial with BNC connectors and UTP cables with RJ-45 connectors.

6. Repeater

Repeater

Repeater is almost similar to the hub. This device is a simple tool that is used to repair and amplify the signal that has passed through. The cable used by this device is a long cable. The way a repeater works is to take a signal from the previous cable and route it to the next cable at full signal strength as before.

7th bridge

bridge

Bridge is used to connect several separate networks, either the same or different. For example, connecting various network media using UTP cables and fiber optic cables. In addition, the bridge can expand the LAN network so that all parts are connected together and become a larger network. Bridge distinguishes a network unit from other network units so that data processing is well organized.

8. Router

Router

The router acts as a filter or traffic filter. This filtering is done using a specific protocol. Also used as a link between multiple networks with different IDs, the router is also easy to configure, the router also has the option to choose a better alternative path. If one of the roads to the destination is interrupted for any reason, the router can continue by choosing a different route.

9. Gateway

gate

Gateway is used to connect a computer network to one or more other networks that use different communication protocols. With the help of this device, information from one computer network can be made available to other computer networks with different protocols. Another term is bridging two incompatible networks so that data can be transferred between different computers. One use of the gateway is for e-mail, the exchange of messages on different systems.

10. Modem

modem

Modem stands for Modulator Demodulator. The modulator is the part whose job it is to convert the digital information signal into a carrier signal and then to send it. The demodulator is the part that separates the information signal from the carrier signal so that it can be properly received. In simple terms, a modem is a tool used to convert a computer’s digital signal to an analog signal and vice versa. A telephone line can be connected to the Internet through a computer modem. Based on their function, modems are divided into three types, namely dial-up, cable and ADSL modems (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line).
