Temporarily, all Spotify services in Russia will be suspended

All Spotify services in Russia have been officially suspended for the time being, following a change in Russian government policy which is claimed to have a negative effect on the future of musicians and the platform.

As one of the largest music streaming platforms, Spotify has indeed spread its application to all corners of the world, including Russia, which is currently at war with Ukraine.

However, for some reason Spotify was forced to close its service in Russia. This news is also very unfortunate, because one of Spotify’s biggest revenues comes from that country.

Fix, all Spotify services in Russia will be temporarily suspended

According to reports from Varietythe main reason why Spotify left Russia is because Vladimir Putin has passed a new law that can limit access to information and eliminate the freedom of opinion and expression that Spotify has been promoting.

Initially, Spotify still believed it could continue to provide its services to Russian citizens by providing reliable news and information.

“Spotify continues to believe that it is imperative to try to keep our service operational in Russia in order to provide reliable and independent news and information in the region,” Spotify wrote in a statement.

However, everything changed when a law eliminating freedom of expression was passed by Vladimir Putin. As a result, Spotify reluctantly had to stop its services in that country.

“Unfortunately, recently enacted laws further restrict access to information, deprive freedom of expression, and criminalize certain types of news putting the safety of Spotify employees and perhaps even our listeners at risk. After careful consideration of our options and current circumstances, we have taken the difficult decision to completely suspend our services in Russia.” Spotify continued.

According to several reliable sources, Spotify will officially disappear from Russia starting April 1, 2022.
