Official, Will Smith Decided To Resign From The Academy!

Actor Will Smith has finally decided to withdraw from The Academy, following the uproar he had made at the 94th Oscar 2022 event at the Dolby Theatre, on Sunday (27/3).

As we both know, on the award night there was an incident that shocked the world. The reason, Will Smith was desperate to go up to the Oscar stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face.

He did this because he didn’t accept Chris Rock’s joke about his wife’s illness (Jada Pinkett Smith). In the aftermath of the case, the 53-year-old actor decided to resign from The Academy.

Will Smith Officially Withdraws From The Academy

Launching from CNN, Will Smith has officially withdrawn from his participation in the biggest award event in the film industry. He will also accept all the consequences that will be given by the parties concerned.

“I am withdrawing from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards were shocking, hurtful and unforgivable,” said Will Smith.

Furthermore, he admitted that his actions on the Oscar stage seemed to steal the audience’s attention and snatch the happiness of the Oscar winners to celebrate at the event.

“I wanted to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their accomplishments and allow the Academy to return with the incredible work it does in supporting creativity and art in film,” he continued.

“Change takes time and I am committed to working to ensure that I will never again allow violence to take over common sense.”

On the other hand, The Academy will continue to thoroughly investigate the case and will determine the appropriate consequences for Will Smith on April 18th.

“We will continue our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for breaches of The Academy’s Standards of Conduct, prior to the next scheduled board meeting on April 18,” said David Rubin, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

From Chris Rock’s side, he hasn’t dared to give a full comment regarding the slapping incident he received from Will Smith, because he still understands the incident and doesn’t want to make a rash decision.
