Mads Mikkelsen Reveals His Hiring Process As Grindelwald

Actor Mads Mikkelsen revealed that the offer he got to play the character Grindelwald was only valid for 2 days. Even if at that time the situation was very chaotic.

The release of the film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore did reap a lot of controversy from the players. One of them was when Johnny Depp’s role as Grindelwald had to be replaced, because at that time Depp was involved in a case with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

As a result, the role was finally filled by a Danish actor, namely Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen. He also told how the process when offered the role of Grindelwald by the Fantastic Beasts 3 film.

According to The Hollywood Reporterat that time Mikkelsen was only given 2 days by Fantastic Beasts 3 to answer the offer given to play the character Grindelwald, replacing Johnny Depp who had been released by Warner Bros.

With a short time, Mikkelsen inevitably had to watch the two previous Fantastic Beasts series, namely Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

“It (Grindelwald’s casting situation) was pretty chaotic. I don’t want to copy anything Depp has done. That would be suicide in creativity. Although Grindelwald was perfectly portrayed, I wanted to create my own version of the character. However, I still have to build a kind of bridge with the previous character depiction,” said Mikkelsen.

“This decision was made very carefully. Everyone knows why the actors were changed and this is like an easter egg from the real world. I hope the first scene makes the audience sink in and accept this new world (with the new Grindelwald),” he continued.

Although only given a very short time, Mikkelsen managed to play Grindelwald’s character very well. In fact, his action in the Fantastic Beasts 3 film also reaped a lot of appreciation from film observers.
