There are so many benefits for us storage media on computers and there are many types of storage media on computers. Best and gaming keyboard

Just take a look at the discussion below, who knows this article can be helpful and useful for those of you who read it. Just go to the following discussion.

It has been said above that the storage media serves to store the data that you will save on the computer. Imagine if you don’t have storage on your computer, it’s useless if you have a computer if you can’t save the data you want to save.

Storage media is a data storage device that functions as a tool/media to store data and programs. So that the data and programs can be opened and re-read over and over again on a computer/laptop.

There are many types of computer storage media, namely:

1. Magnetic storage media

Magnetic storage media is secondary storage that is often found in modern computer systems. For example, floppy disks, external hard drives, internal hard drives, flash drives, MMC (Memory Card), zip drives, and many more.

2. Optical storage media

An optical disk is an electronic storage medium that can be written and read using a low-powered laser. For example on CD, CD-Rom, CD-R (read), CD-RW (Read Write), and DVD.

3. Cloud storage media (cloud storage)

Cloud storage media is data storage media that can be accessed anywhere and anytime by its users through an integrated network and connected to the internet network. For example on Google Drive, blogspot, YouTube (usually in the form of videos), Facebook, E-mail, and many more.

1. Internal storage media

Internal storage media is memory that is already embedded or already in the computer and storage media can be directly accessed by the processor to process the data so that it can be stored on the computer. Examples of internal memory are ROM and RAM.

2. External storage media

External storage media is additional memory located outside the computer whose function is to store data and programs on the computer. Examples include flash drives, MMC (Memory Card), external hard drives, and others.

TYPES OF DATA STORAGE MEDIA THE SECOND WAY

1. Magnetic Storage (Magnetic Disk)

Magnetic storage is a storage medium that is included in the secondary storage that is most widely used in modern computer systems.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Pros: The storage capacity on this media is greater than other storage media, even reaching Petabytes and high data access speeds.

Weaknesses: The price is more expensive when compared to other storage media.

How it works: (Just a little bit) When the disc is used, the motor drive rotates at a very high speed. There is a read-write head placed on the surface of the plate. The surface of the disc is divided into several tracks which are still divided into several sectors. Fixed head discs have one head for each track, while moving head discs (or often called hard disks) only have one head that must be moved to access from one track to another.

Types of media from Magnetic Disk:

DISCKET

In 1969, the first floppy disk was introduced. At that time it could only be read (read-only), so that when the data was saved it could not be changed or deleted. It measures 8 inches and can store about 80kB of data. Four years later, the same floppy disk appeared and could store as much as 256kB of data. In addition, he has a writable ability. Further developments, in 1990 was born a disk with a size of 3 inches that can store data about 250 MB or so-called Zip disk.

HDD

Hard disk is a type of floppy disk that is fixed, does not need to be issued as a floppy disk. Generally made of solid metal in the form of a disc or plate. A hard disk usually consists of more than one disk or plate which is coated with iron oxide. How to store data is almost the same as a floppy diskette. Hard disk material and larger storage capacity also distinguish it from floppy diskettes, which are relatively elastic materials.

FLASH DISK

Flashdisk is a storage device for other types of floppy drives using a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface cable. This flash drive can be read and written, very practical and lightweight with sizes ranging from 50 x 15 x 6 mm. Even now the size is getting smaller with a much larger capacity, up to 1 TB.

MEMORY CARD

Storage media that is widely used on computers and electronic equipment, such as digital cameras, laptops, cellphones, iPods and video game consoles

ZIP DRIVE

It is a magnetic storage medium with a very small head and can hold up to 750 MB of data. This format became the most popular of the super-floppy type products but never reached standard status to replace the 3.5-inch floppy disk. Later, CD-RWs replaced Zip disks, and internal and external Zip-650 or Zip-CD recorders were sold under the brand name Zip.

2. Optical Storage (Optical Disk)

Optical storage is a medium that stores computer data that can be written to and read using a low-power laser.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Pros: Lighter in weight than some Magnetic Disk storage media.

Weaknesses: Memory capacity is smaller than Magnetic Disk and if it is scratched there is a risk that the data will not be read.

How it works: The storage medium rotates very quickly (this rotation affects the data transfer rate) by reading the data through the optics of the reading device.

CD

CD (compact disk) or laser optical disk was the first type of optical disk to appear. The reading and writing of data on the disc is handled via a laser beam. Therefore the optical disk access speed is much higher than the disk access speed. There are at least three kinds of optical discs on the market that are offered according to your needs, namely CD-ROM, CD-WORM, and CD-Rewriteable.

WORM

CD-WORM, which stands for Write once read many, can be written on a computer. As the name implies, recording can only be done once. After recording, the contents cannot be changed. This CD is useful for storing documents, draft images, songs and others for backup purposes. These CDs are often sold as CD-R or CD-Recordable labels.

DVD (Digital Video Disc)

DVD is the next generation of storage technology that uses optical disc media. DVDs have a much larger capacity than regular CD-ROMs, up to 9 Gbytes. This DVD technology is now widely used by major music and movie companies, making it the most popular electronic product in the 3 years since it was first introduced. The development of DVD-ROM technology is also faster than CD-ROM. 1x DVD-ROM enables an average data transfer rate of 1,321 MB/s with an average transfer rate of 12 MB/s.

3. Cloud Storage

Cloud storage is a medium that is still relatively new, this media is already online and has not used the data memory capacity on the device because it uses storage on the internet.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Pros: Does not require a device to store data.

Weaknesses: Frequent server errors with the risk of data loss and data connection access.

How it works: To be able to store data on this media we are required to upload a file and to retrieve the data we have to download the file.

That is the definition, function and kinds of storage media. How? Storage media is very important for computers, right? Because if there is no storage then you cannot save data and programs.
