source: myanimelist.com

Naruto Road To Ninja is the ninth film in the Naruto franchise and the sixth film in the Shippuden series. The film is to commemorate Naruto’s 10th Anniversary and as such, Naruto’s creator, Masashi Kishimoto, was involved with the story planning and character designs.

After a strange fight against the Akatsuki members (including some who had already been killed), Naruto and Sakura reflect on their lives and wonder if things would turn out differently if their roles were reversed.

They get their wish granted when Madara (aka Tobi) suddenly appears and seems to take them to an alternate world where their friends’ personalities are different (Rock Lee and Neji are perverted, Kiba acts like a cat, Hinata is more assertive and brash, Ino is being shy, etc.), Sasuke never defected and still lives in Konoha (but acts like a Playboy), and what’s even more surprising is that Naruto’s parents are still alive while Sakuta’s parents died saving the village and becoming heroes.

As the two try to find out what happened, Madara conspires with the masked ninja to kill Naruto and steal the Nine-Tailed Fox.

Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha returns from a mission in another dimension with news of an imminent threat.

After learning from Sarada that Sasuke is Naruto’s rival, Boruto seeks him out out of anger at his father for dividing time between village and family and pleads to become Sasuke’s disciple in order to surpass his father. Sasuke accepts on one condition: Boruto must learn his father’s signature move, the Rasengan, and prove that he is willing to work for his cause rather than always looking for the easy way out.

At the same time, Boruto enters the Chnin Exams with Sarada and Konoha’s newcomer Mitsuki to show Naruto his abilities and finally gain the attention and respect of his busy father.

As the Chnin Exams take place, the celebration is interrupted by the appearance of 2 unknown people, Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ootsutsuki. They launch an attack on Naruto and the Kage, starting a new battle to defend the ninja world.
