Raiden Shogun Genshin Impact Best Build: Weapons and Team Composition

Raiden Shogun is the first new Electro element character in Genshin Impact introduced in version 2.1, along with Kujou Sara.

He is the third Archon, of the seven Archon in Teyvat, who resides in Inazuma. He was introduced as Archon Electro, after Venti and Zhongli were released. Given the abilities of the two predecessor Archons who were very strong, would Raiden Shogun be able to keep up with them?

Raiden Shogun

Overview

Genshin Impact describes Raiden Shogun as a support character. It has a unique skillset and gameplay. In simple terms, Raiden Shogun deals Electro damage, both through his Elemental Skill and Burst, as well as replenishing their respective energy when the Elemental Burst is active.

Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Skill is capable of producing Electro damage every time a character deals damage to surrounding enemies, whether active in the field or not. The duration of his Elemental Skill is very long, but with a fairly short cooldown. This makes his Elemental Skill always ready to use.

The downside, this skill will only work every time the character deals damage to the enemy and not every time the character actively attacks. Therefore, this skill cannot penetrate the Abyss Mage’s shield and the like. This skill can still be active if it hits Fatui or Lawachurl armor.

Elemental Burst Raiden Shogun will deal damage and will change Raiden Shogun’s attack to Electro for a few seconds. In addition, every time Raiden manages to attack an enemy, he will replenish the energy of a team.

In his Elemental Skill and Burst, there are two mechanics worth noting. Raiden Shogun will deal additional damage to a team’s Elemental Burst, based on their energy consumption. The bigger the cost, the bigger the bonus.

The second mechanic is the Resolve Stack. Every time a team’s Elemental Burst is activated, the more powerful Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst is activated afterwards. The indicator can be seen from the purple circle behind the active character.

Therefore, it is recommended to use Elemental Burst from another character, before using Elemental Burst Raiden Shogun. The Resolve Stack will be fully filled, when the circle behind the character is fully lit.

Artifact

The recommended artifact for Raiden Shogun is 4 Emblems of Severed Fate, as most of its power lies in Elemental Burst. In addition, through his passive talent, each Energy Recharge he has will provide additional Electro Damage Bonus.

As an alternative artifact, you can use between 2 Noblesse Oblige, 2 Emblem of Severed Fate, and 2 Thundering Fury. However, for this alternative artifact, it is only recommended if you don’t have 4 good Emblems of Severed Fate yet.

For stats, Raiden Shogun wants a fairly large Energy Recharge. In addition to Raiden’s 90 energy costs, Energy Recharge also functions as additional damage. By having only 200% Energy Recharge, Raiden Shogun already has an Electro Damage Bonus which is almost equivalent to +20 Goblet.

Main Stat: ATK% / Energy Recharge / Electro Damage Bonus?

Ideal stats are the key to Raiden Shogun’s optimal performance. But how to determine the correct stat?

As mentioned earlier, Energy Recharge Raiden Shogun deals Electro Damage Bonus. However, too much Energy Recharge makes Raiden Shogun’s damage not optimal, if the Attack is low. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to when to use the main stat on the artifact, between Energy Recharge or ATK%.

The main stat referred to here is the main stat for Sands of Eon. For Goblet of Eonothem, you can equip artifacts with main stat ATK% or Electro Damage Bonus. Both will give relatively the same output. Therefore, use artifacts that have better sub stats. For Circlet of Logos, keep using Crit Rate/DMG.

If the Raiden Shogun’s Energy Recharge is between 200%-250%, only from weapons and artifact sub stats, then you can use % ATK main stat. Meanwhile, if Raiden Shogun uses a weapon with a sub stat other than Energy Recharge, then you should use Sands of Eon with the main Energy Recharge stat.

Priority sub stats:

  • Crit Rate/DMG

  • Energy Recharge

  • Atk%

  • Elemental Mastery

Weapon

For weapons, it will be divided into two categories, namely the best weapons and the best F2P weapons.

The Raiden Shogun’s best weapon is held by Engulfing Lighting. This weapon is designed for Raiden Shogun, both in terms of stats, visuals and passive effects. This weapon can meet the needs of Energy Recharge and Attack Raiden Shogun with a large amount.

For alternative weapons, you can use Primordial Jade Winged Spear, Skyward Spine, Staff of Homa, Vortex Vanquisher and Deathmatch. 5-star weapons certainly have a higher base attack than 4-star weapons, so it is recommended to use them.

For the best F2P weapons, you can use The Catch. You can get this weapon from the fishing feature, which was introduced in version 2.1. Sub stat Energy Recharge and also the passive effect is very suitable for Raiden Shogun.

For alternative F2P weapons, you can use the Favonius Lance, Prototype Starglitter, or Blackcliff Pole.

Team Composition

Quickswap is a term used for team compositions whose gameplay is more centered on rotation and the use of Elemental Skill & Burst, rather than just using one DPS game. Generally, this team contains sub DPS and support.

Raiden Shogun has good synergy in this team. In addition to dealing considerable damage, he can help replenish the energy needed by a team. One example of a suggested Quickswap team contains Raiden Shogun, Xiangling, Xingqiu, and Bennet. In addition to containing sub DPS that is strong and easy to obtain, this team will take advantage of Vaporize, Overload, and Electro-charged reactions simultaneously.

Eula and Raiden Shogun have good synergy. In addition to accessing Superconduct, Raiden Shogun can increase Eula’s Elemental Burst damage and replenish her energy. Huge energy requirements have always been a major problem for Eula and the Raiden Shogun to solve. One example of this team is Raiden Shogun, Eula, Beidou, and Diona. You can replace Beidou with Fischl, if you are facing a boss or single target enemy.

Besides Eula, the specific characters that have synergy with Raiden Shogun are Tartaglia or Childe. The composition in question is Firework, but replaces Fischl with Raiden Shogun. This team composition will take advantage of Electro-charged reactions to kill large numbers of enemies.

Tartaglia doesn’t have Energy problems, but he does have problems when his Elemental Skill is on cooldown. Raiden Shogun can fill the void. You can replace Bennet with Healer or Shielder.

Tips & Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks that you might be able to use:

  • Team composition can affect the amount of Energy Recharge Raiden Shogun needs. If there are other Electro characters in the team, then 180-200% Energy Recharge is enough. And if Raiden Shogun is the only Electro character on the team, Energy Recharge is recommended to be above 200%.

  • Although the combination of Beidou and Raiden Shogun looks interesting, this combo can’t be used. Beidou’s Elemental Burst will not work as long as the Raiden Shogun attacks while his Elemental Burst is in progress. This has been officially stated by miHoYo.

  • Indeed, every use of a team’s Elemental Burst will strengthen Raiden Shogun’s Burst, but that does not mean that Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst activation must wait for the full Resolve Stack. Do not let the Resolve Stack that is not full block the rotation which results in sub-optimal damage.

  • If you have Yoimiya or other pyro characters, you can also pair them with Raiden Shogun. However, it should be noted that by producing an Overload reaction, you must chase the bounced enemy. This is sometimes quite disturbing rotation because it takes more time to catch up with the enemy.

Closing

Like other characters, Raiden Shogun has advantages and disadvantages. Indeed, Raiden Shogun has not been able to compete with the strength of the two Archons before him, but that does not mean this character is a bad character.

Raiden Shogun is able to unlock a variety of different teams and is even able to change the build artifacts of some characters because it offers energy charging. This can be seen from the synergy with Eula.

For now, Raiden Shogun provides solutions to problems that do not yet exist. This condition is similar to when Archon Geo, Zhongli, was first released in version 1.1. At that time, there were not many enemies that required players to bring a Shielder character. This is already much different compared to now in version 2.1, with the emergence of enemies such as the Geovishap and Azdaha variants, which will deal great damage to players without shields.
