Riot Games, the world’s largest developer and publisher of games with the most players, is launching the first League of Legends: Wild Rift SEA Championship 2021 on September 14, 2021. 21 of the best Wild Rift teams will be featured in this online tournament Regional level fighting for the Wild Rift SEA Champions title for the first time.

Wild Rift: SEA Championship 2021, hosted in partnership with ESL Asia, marks an important milestone in Riot’s mission to make Wild Rift its first global mobile esport.

Teams from 9 countries and regions, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Oceania, Taiwan and Hong Kong, will all compete for a total prize pool of $ 200,000. Each team qualified with a brilliant performance in the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Fall Season.

Southeast Asia pioneered Riot’s entry into mobile gaming and mobile esports and was the region of choice for the game’s first regional alpha and open beta phases. In February 2021, the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series was later announced as Riot’s first global mobile esports league.

Southeast Asia is the fastest growing region in the world for mobile internet penetration. Its users spend three to five hours a day on their smartphones, more than any other user in the world.

Being the first to enter the mobile world also means that mobile gaming is deeply rooted in Southeast Asian youth culture. Nearly 50% of consumers in Southeast Asia are believed to have played mobile games on their cell phones, apps or websites, and 80% of all gamers in the region are believed to have played games on their cell phones.

“We want Wild Rift eSports Riot to be the first global mobile eSport. While we are still in the early stages of our newest sport, our progress in Southeast Asia is a measure of our goals in other regions, ”said Leo.

“We are excited to make this high quality player and production-first strategy available to other mobile game enthusiasts around the world,” said Leo.

From the release of the second EP by virtual pop band K / DA and partnerships with Uniqlo and Warner Music to the release of the upcoming Netflix animated series Arcane later this year, we’re constantly looking for new ways to entertain and surprise our fans around the world .

eSports plays a very important role in this strategy and represents a golden opportunity for us in Southeast Asia, the top region in the mobile world.

“We created a vision for this region to be Riot’s hub for mobile esports and we are proud to be the first to introduce Wild Rift Esports,” said Justin.

eSports is also gaining increasing recognition by governments in the region as more countries unlock the potential of eSports through economic investment and career development for youth.
