Free Fire and FIFA to replace Dota 2 and Tekken at SEA Games 2021?

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The mystery of which esports games will be played at the SEA Games Vietnam 2021 has finally been solved. Rumors are circulating that 6 video game titles will compete against each other. There are two substitute games from the numbers that previously raced at the 2021 Philippines SEA Games, namely Free Fire and FIFA Online 4, which replaced Dota 2 and Tekken 7.

Rumors of the inclusion of Free Fire as one of the eSports numbers contested at the biennial event were spread by the division manager of the Free Fire Team NXL, Fisal Junior. On his Instagram account @ nxlfisaljunior46, Fisal added a screenshot of the games that will take place at the SEA Games 2021 on Sunday (29.11.). One of them is Free Fire.

Vietnam as the host and the committee have the right to choose the title of the game to be contested. This decision certainly raises the advantages and disadvantages for the fans. One of these relates to the number of players from countries playing the contested games.

For your information, FIFA Online 4 is a PC game published by Garena in the Southeast Asia region. However, in several countries, including Indonesia, the game has not yet been released and is still in the FIFA Online 3 version. Meanwhile, Dota 2 actually has a large number of players in Southeast Asia. Replacing it with Free Fire would definitely get a community reaction, although the Free Fire community is now a fast growing game too.

Allegedly, the other four games contested are Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Starcraft 2 itself is less popular in Southeast Asia, but there are plenty of professional gamers in Vietnam. There is no official statement from the Organizing Committee of the SEA Games 2021, which are scheduled to take place in Hanoi from November 21, 2021 to December 2, 2021. Let’s see if the number of games changes again, which will benefit the hosts or not.

Esports itself is one of the new numbers competing at the Southeast Asian sporting event. That number didn’t officially launch until 2021, having previously been a demonstration event at the 2021 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.
